Dear women in tech…

Here are a few insights for you, according to TechCrunch:

Only 18% of undergraduate computer science degrees and 26% of computing jobs are held by women. It’s worse at the top of the corporate world – just 5% of leadership positions in the technology industry are held by women.

In light of recent events, you might feel like we’re still fighting an uphill battle, and we are, but I’m here to tell you something:

The biggest statement you can make is to stay in tech, and this is why.

We are brave. We have been put down by people for being naive enough to think that we can really speak up and reach the highest levels of the corporate ladder.

Like everyone else, I’ve had my fair share of incidents. This isn’t to say I’m super-human and that things like that haven’t affected me, because of course they have.

But why do I continue to want to be here, when I seem so out of place?

The truth is, I have an enormous grit that can’t be held back. But most importantly, I’m doing it for the generations of young girls to come… I want them to look up to the 16 most powerful women in tech right now (according to Forbes) and say: “I want to be like her!”

If I can inspire one of them in any way by not giving up, then I’ll have done the best thing.
