During the holidays, I participated in Dustin Senos’ Out of Office Hours — a way to connect newcomers to Tech with someone who’s already learned the ropes. The idea is to demystify what it’s like to work as a Senior Designer/Developer/Product Manager, etc to someone someone starting out.
I enjoyed sharing my Product Management journey and helped make connections where I could. Over the years, I’ve been fortunate to have had great mentors and sponsors who helped shape my career, and this feels like a great way to give back.
However, the one thing that struck me was proportionally how few women booked times with me vs. men. As someone who’s part of an underrepresented group, I’m passionate about increasing inclusion + diversity in Tech.
In 2017, inspired by Dustin’s project, I’d love to volunteer my time to focus on Product Management. I’m planning to open up my calendar and help with interview prep, questions about PM roles at large/small companies, Product strategy, Product design, side projects, launching products and running teams.
Who is this for: People that are new to tech (<2 years of experience) or new to PM (<2 years in the role). I’d love to hear from more women (trans and non-binary folks are welcome), POC, and other underrepresented groups.
If you’d like to connect with me or another Senior PM, please fill out this form.
If you’re a Senior PM/Product Exec or Product Leader and would like to volunteer your time to help new PMs + improve inclusion and diversity in Tech, let me know here.
